![]() The Coin Due to popular demand and trail success, the Delaware Tourism Office has distributed all Delaware Trackable Coins for our Geocaching Trail. Stay tuned for future trails from the Tourism Office! The Delaware Geocaching Trail is still open and the caches are live and ready to be discovered. Our Delaware Geocache Trail Coin features the Delaware Blue Hen Chicken and Delaware’s Official State Insect, the Ladybug. The blue hen chicken was designated the official state bird of Delaware in 1939. The history of this symbol stems from the Revolutionary war when Delaware soldiers were compared to fighting cocks. The lady bug was adopted as the official state bug of Delaware in 1974. Mrs. Mollie Brown-Rust and her 2nd grade students of the Lulu M. Ross Elementary School in Milford, Delaware, worked tirelessly with our State Legislature to adopt the bug. Also known as the lady beetle, ladybird, or ladyfly, lady bugs help the agricultural industry in Delaware by eating tiny insect pests that damage plants. |
